Love-hate relationship with social media.
It seems like you either love it or hate it. Or maybe a combination of both. There are so many strategies, platforms, and ideas on how to make it successful that it can be overwhelming. But at the same time there is such potential to explore beautiful content, grow your online community, and really connect with customers. With balance, social media can be such a powerful tool. We wanted to share a few tips and pieces of advice with managing your social media.
Take breaks from your social media accounts
Needless to say, with anything, you often need to take breaks. Social media can be overwhelming if you spend too much time scrolling through other people’s accounts. It’s easy to compare your feeds, your content, and even parts of your life with others. When you’re spending too much time online, it can be easy to forget that what you are seeing is not all of someone’s life. So we recommend taking intentional time off from social media. Whether you participate in an #analogweekend, take time off for the holidays, or take a whole month off it can be good to take some time away.
Define goals for your social media
Are your accounts for business or personal use? Or do you have a combination of both? Sometimes it’s hard to always have a curated Instagram feed, when you really want to share a photo of your dog that might not fit into your aesthetic. It’s perfectly fine to have a business account where you focus on insights, engagement, and a curated feed and then a separate personal account where you post whatever you want, with whatever filter you want, and however many times in a row you want. By defining goals for your accounts, it can help you figure out exactly what you are trying to obtain and what you are striving for. Additionally, by setting goals, you can see how far you’ve come and celebrate your success.
Focus on creating community
It’s easy to see perfectly curated feeds and beautiful images and forget there are real people behind the accounts. We believe in community over competition (and we’ll talk more about that in a future blog post)! So we always think one of your goals for social media should be connecting with other creatives and attempting to build real, authentic community. Whether it’s connecting with and finding creatives in your own backyard, or with creatives around the world, there is such inspiration to be found and friendships to be formed, and social media can be such a great tool to assist with this!
So whether you currently loving social media or hating it, we hope that this tips help you to stay balanced and define why you’re using it to begin with 🙂
